FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senator Waugh Receives 2007 PACD Legislator Recognition AwardHARRISBURG – Sen. Mike Waugh (R-York), along with Sen. Roger Madigan (R-Bradford), was honored yesterday by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts (PACD) with the 2007 Legislator Recognition Award for his support to advance the efforts of PACD and Pennsylvania’s conservation districts. “I am honored to present Senator Madigan and Senator Waugh with the PACD Legislator Recognition Award. Their numerous contributions to agriculture and the environment over the years have benefited all Pennsylvania citizens,” said Larry Kehl, PACD President. As a member of the Chesapeake Bay Commission and the former Chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, Waugh has been in a prominent position to be a leader on conservation efforts through initiatives and legislation. The PACD recognized Waugh’s sponsorship of legislation to create the Resource Enhancement And Protection (REAP) Program, which provides tax credits to farmers for implementing conservation measures into their agricultural production practices. In addition, Waugh’s sponsorship of alternative fuels legislation and his co-sponsorship of legislation to provide a single, non-lapsing fund to the state’s conservation districts were acknowledged, as well as his support for funding of the Agricultural Conservation Easement Purchase Program. “The Conservation Districts play a significant role in York County and across Pennsylvania, so it is only natural that I do what I can to assist their efforts,” said Waugh. “However, I am very honored and humbled by the recognition they have given to me with this award.” PACD, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization representing Pennsylvania's 66 conservation districts.
